Macbeth Essay – the Similarities and Differences Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
Tran Huyen My Amy ENG3U Ms. Jeska January 10th , 2012 Before and After When comparing Macbeth and dame Macbeth to each other, the important analogy between them that must be menti hotshotd is that they both have towering oppositions for royalty and greatness. Beside the only one significant resemblance, they also differ with two distinct dissimilaritys. Through pop out the play, they both portrayed as unrighteous characters who have connected the deaths of other characters, however the madcap force of their brute(a) behavior be entirely different. The rea password that leads brothel keeper Macbeth to her menacing per male childality was self-denial while Macbeths driving force was cause by his big greed. The flaws each possessed resulted their d avouchfall and this is the last different when comparing Macbeth and his wife. The main similarity that Macbeth and his wife, bird Macbeth both shared was their high ambition for royalty and greatness. That was also the foun dation for committing all the makes passim the play which are caused by Macbeth and doll Macbeth. Due to the prediction of the three witches All hail, Macbeth Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor shalt be office hereafter (Act 1, pictorial matter 3).The prophecies not only triggered the ambitions in Macbeth entirely also give rises of large ambitions in Lady Macbeth. The death of King Duncan portrayed an sample in the play that clearly showed how Lady Macbeth delivered herself with her ambitions (Act 2, Scene 2). As all the readers know, the first death in the play, King Duncan, who is obviously killed by Macbeth. To chalk up to this, Lady Macbeth was also the one responsible for the murder of King Duncan. By using Macbeths do it for her, Lady Macbeth persuades him into killing King Duncan because Macbeth contends and trusts his wife he is vulnerable to her opinions and temptations. That is shown in the quote We fail further screw your courage to the sticking-place who shall be ar the guilt of our great quell? (Act 1, Scene 7). Because of her ambition of becoming King and Queen, Lady Macbeths ambition took over her morality and eventuall ended up whispering deadly spoken language that caused King Duncans tragic death. For Macbeth, his ambition was also growing as the play progresses. While the ambition of Lady Macbeth stops after she achieved her desire of becoming the Queen of Scotland, Macbeth was still getting more committed to his great ambition. The evidences for the great ambition of Macbeth are that he is again committed the next two assassinations of Banquo and Macduffs wife and son (Act 3, Scene 3 and Act 4, Scene 2). He murdered these people because he was afraid of the predictions from the three witches that might come true For the prediction of Banquo, three witches said that his son testament become King, Lesser than Macbeth, and greater . For another prediction of Macduff, they said that Macbeth should be aware of Macduff, Macbeth Macbeth M acbeth Beware Macduff.Beware the Thane of Fife fell me. Enough. (Act 4, Scene 1). Due to these two predictions, Macbeth decided to kill those people who might be a vulnerable threat to his throne. Those two evidences clearly show the Macbeths great ambition totally turned him into a very greedy being and a man who lacked human traits as he will do anything, including killing people, just to secure his power. After all, both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are the aforesaid(prenominal), they both have high ambitions which are just for achieving their own royalty and greatness.Although Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are both portrayed as aversion characters who have committed to all the murders in the play, their driving force with drove them to their cruelty is totally different to each other which was also the first difference that differ them in the play. Both have the same evil characteristic but for Lady Macbeth, her cunningness is move by her self-denial. She thinks for Macbeth that leads her to the termination of killing King Duncan because she wants her economise to become the King of Scotland. Quote Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here nor withhold peace between theffect and it (Act 1, Scene 5). In translation, the quote basically said that Lady Macbeth wanted to become a man, less like a woman so she wont feel remorse, so that no human compassion can stop her evil plan or prevent her from accomplishing it. Through the translation of that quote, the readers infered that she wanted to be stronger because she felt remorse and guilty when she made the decision to kill which means the humanity still exists in her. From this, it shows that she does not want to kill Duncan unless it is the only vogue can make Macbeth become the King. Therefore, right after she achieved her desire, the ambition stopped urging her which was proven by the events in the play that she was not committed to anymore murder after the death of King Duncan. On the contrary to Lady Macbeth, the driving force to the evilness in Macbeth came from his own greed for what he cannot have. At the beginning of the play, he was struggling approximately whether he should kill King Duncan or not and he seemed to be guilty for his decisions. After the murder was through with(p), Macbeth officially became the King of Scotland. That was when he became more and more determined because now he could do anything he wanted to.Lead by the fire of ambition, Macbeth tried to assassinate Banquo and his son, Fleance, which was an example that really proved to the readers of his greed. Quote To be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus Upon my enquiry they placd a fruitless crown come fate, into the list, and champion me to the utterance. (Act 3, Scene 1). From the quote stated, they showed that Macbeth was jealous with Banquo whose son will become the King just like in the witches prophecies, while Macbeth does not have a son who supposed to take his place as the successor.Macbeth thought it was not fair because after everything that he had done just for their benefit. To secure his power and protect his throne for himself, once again, Macbeth committed the death of his dear friend, Banquo. From those explanations, Macbeth has completely changed into an evil man because he was too greedy for what he cannot have. At the end of the play, the dip of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth was their infamous death. However, comparing their downfalls to each other, they were also very different to the expectations of most of the readers.Their downfall was another difference contributed to the contrast between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Especially for Lady Macbeth, whom planned the murder of King Duncan and tried to allure her husband to get rid of the guilt and to follow her scheme. Before the butchery started, she showed herself as a cruel, self-asserting woman when dealing with her husbands hesitation about the murdering of King Duncan which was show n in the quote When you durst to do it, then you were a man had I so sworn as you have one to this. (Act 1, Scene 7).The audience was lead to believe that Lady Macbeth will never feel any guilt concerning the murder, but her guilty conscience was displayed near the end of the play. She began to sleepwalk and relived the murder in her mind. Quote Out, damned realise Out, I say One two why, then tis time to dot. Hell is murky Fie, my lordfie a soldier, and afeard? (Act 5, Scene 1). During the course of the play, Lady Macbeth was portrayed as a tough character, through her actions with her husband, her own opinions of the murders, and finally she tried to cope with her obvious guilt. The guilt of the murder now has become unbearable for her and at the end, her unexpected downfall happened as she killed herself. On the contrary with Lady Macbeth, Macbeth showed his fear and guilt when dealing with the murder of Duncan which is shown in the scene of that he saw the imaginary dagger. A t first, Macbeths intentions would have been less serious if his wife was not more anxious than he was. Not as assertive as his wife, Lady Macbeth uses his love for her to pressure him to follow her plan, therefore, he was forced to murder Duncan pushed by his wife therefore it is partly Lady Macbeths fault for Macbeths downfall. However, as the story progresses, the more inhumane and fearless Macbeth became as hygienic as the body counts that he caused began to rise. For example, after the death of King Duncan was the death of Banquo and Macduffs family was also the victim of the Macbeths rage. He seems to become forgotten the simple human feelings and emotions. The quote, he states, I have around forgotten the taste of fears The time has been my senses would have cooled to hear a night-shriek and my fell of hair would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir. (Act 5, Scene 5). He even cannot feel fear as he accomplished Malcolms army are going to invade him soon.He further showed how he was immune to human emotion in the following moment, when he was told that Lady Macbeth had died. Macbeth reacted coldly by saying She should have died hereafter. (Act 5, Scene 5). Those are some evidences clearly showing the unexpected changes of Macbeth as his downfall escalated. At the end of the play, the last downfall that Macbeth had to bear was his headless death (Act 5, scene 8). Overall, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have only one same similarity and that was that they both have high ambitions and greeds for royalty and greatness, and this was the main cause for committing the murders. In the play, the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth unfolded in an already passionate marriage. They are grounded by their love and would do almost anything for each other, therefore, it was also the driving force of Lady Macbeths evilness which came from the self-denial. While the difference was Macbeths evilness was just motivated by his greed. They also differed from each othe r in their different downfalls at the end of the play. Lady Macbeth was an assertive, cruel woman at first which lead the readers to believe that she will never be obsessed about her guilt like er husband, but at the end, the downfall is that she has to take is her guilt and death. While Macbeth at first showed his fear and deep guilt for the murder of King Duncan. Later on in the tragedy, Macbeths downfall was his unexpected changes of becoming fearless and an inhumane person. The Costs of Extending Sea Defences at Walton-on-the-Naze are too high and the Benefits are too small
Walton is the southeast of England part of the t deliver is situated on a headland c eithered the Naze.To score to Walton we allow for go across the Or substantially Bridge and on the A12, past we will travel onto the A113 and and so go onto the B1033 and then up to Walton. This entire journey is fifty kilometres approximately.thither is map of Walton andthe route to it on page 3Walton has got a colourful background* The earliest human remains found at Walton ar go out back to the Neolithic period of 4,000 to 2,500 BC. This was discovered when a large village settlement was found at the northern end of the Naze.* Romans were the side by side(p) to inhabit the Naze.* After the Romans nonhing much is known somewhat(predicate) the Naze until closely 1527 when John Stone bought a farm about 1km from to twenty-four hour periods shoreline.* In 1924 the Naze was bought and make into a golf course.* In 1939 the argona was taken over by the armed forces, where the first British guided missile scheme was developed.* The forces left the Naze in 1947 and it become rough grazing* Finally in 1963 the Essex County Council and Tendring District Council as a public open space bought it.There are many different reasons why mess hope to make it the Naze, firstly, to lose the area would be bad financially, as the peck who live there commence in specie and gift taxes as do the businesses approximately the area. Secondly, the falloffs at the Naze are of geological significance, it is unspoilt of fossilised sharks teeth and wood. Thirdly a mountain of migratory birds start and finish their journeys at the Naze. any(prenominal) of these are often rare, such as Sanderlings, Oyster Catchers and Little Terns. There are to a fault several(prenominal) actually unusual plants beating on the Naze. Many of these plants, birds and fossils are threatened with extinction in Britain. The cliffs at Walton are being eroded in mainly two routes, the first is slumping, d escribed in the plot above. The second is when hydraulic perform (when the waves are crashing into the cliff) and abrasion (pebbles rocks etc. thrown at cliff), causes undercutting at the quarter of the cliff. This leaves the base of the cliffs un harbored so the cliffs collapse into the ocean. In doing this coursework I am trying to prove or disprove the hypothesis, the costs of extending ocean defences at Walton-on-the-Naze are too gritty and the benefits are too small.Chapter 1Coastal Defences at WaltonAt present there are three main ways that are used to protect the coast, groynes, Rip-raps and breakwaters. All three of these grasp Longshore sick (LSD).Longshore Drift on a marginA Groyne is a wall built a little way out into the ocean that traps sand, this stops Longshore Drift, and so sand builds up on one side of the Groyne so the beach gets bigger. However, on the other side of the groyne, no sand builds up, so the beach is still bewildered. These cost 10,000 each, and are sited more than 200 metres apart. So to protect just one kilometre would cost 50,000. A rip-rap is a group of interlocking boulders, which break up the waves, therefore not allowing the waves to erode the cliffs or letting Longshore Drift take place. These cost 3,500 a metre. Breakwaters are basically just concrete groynes, they stop Long brim Drift and alike break the waves.A Rip-rapI feel that these methods wee-wee been very successful in stopping Longshore Drift, as you can see from the understand under there is a lot of sand. The margin at billet CThe groynes flummox worked and there is a beachTo protect the cliff/prom different methods have withal been used. Rock Armour takes most of the energy of the wave as for it not to crash into the cliff and erode it onward. The sea wall is probably the most all-important(a) method to stop the wearing away as it is the most effective, the sea wall reflects waves and withstands waves breaking on it so stopping the prome nade being eroded, however it does have to be replaced because over time it to will get eroded away. The ocean Wall at the PromenadeThis is the most effective technique, alone as you can see from the picture it has been beaten by the waves and has started to erode.Site D is generally the unprotected area. There are actually no sea defences to stop the erosion and removal of the beach. Also the groynes at the south of this area have made the problem worse. Even though behind the groyne the beach is protected it means less tangible heads march on down the beach, so beaches further down the coast start to get smaller. This means that the waves put up all their energy on the base of the cliffs so they slump. There are very few defences to protect the cliff at site D, simply a very old sea wall, an this has started to erode away so it is not real(a)ly very useful. The methods used havent been successful because basically there are no methods to stop the erosion. That area is very po pular with dog walkers, horse riders and bird watchers. There is a lot of wildlife, a Martello tower, houses, farms and sewage works. So it would not be very good for it not to be there.Chapter 2At sites A, B and C a vast amount of money has been spent on fashioning sea defences and repairing them, and they have been working very well. At Walton there is a very big beach, nearly all the cliffs are not slumping and even though the defences were expensive, Walton is very economically rich. If the groynes were never there or had been taken out the resort would have been very different, it would eventually become a ghost town. This is called the contradict multiplier effect. This is basen in the diagram labelled The Negative Multiplier proceeds. The Slumping Which Will Hopefully Not come AnymoreFor Walton to be cost saving for economical reasons it has to have lots of sources of income, the most important of these is the beach. The beach is a reason for sight to come to the town, and once they use the beach they use the pier, the amusements, the restaurants and the unoccupied centre, all of these things ask in money and overly all of these businesses pay taxes which means the council gets more money, which in crack means the services (health, education, environmental, emergency) get more money so they are better. As the towns services are better then more businesses are attracted to Walton, because of all of these things Walton becomes a thriving tourist town, with lots of money. When the 4 classes went to Walton we filled in economic and environmental evaluation sheets of the four different sites we visited, for economic 1 was the least valuable and 5 the most, and with environmental 1 was the least environmentally valuable and 5 the most. Then I took an average or 2 classes results. Then using Excel I made graphs of these results, I also made graphs of my own, personal results. These are the graphs entitled Bi-Polar Environmental/Economic Index Scores or My stimulate Bi-Polar etc.As you can see from the class average graph for the economic entertain of Walton and my own results, we all suasion that Site A, the Pier Area was the most economically valuable. This is because of the pier and all the amusements on it these all bring in money provided it was also the leisure centre and all the restaurants that also bring in money. However I thought that Site B was also very economically valuable while the class average showed it was quite valuable but not as valuable as site A. I felt this because in site B there is the beach, and this is probably the biggest money earner, as without the beach all of the other things would not be there (see Negative Multiplier Effect diagram). Also site B has the beach huts that are quite costly to buy so this would bring in money. Both the class graphs and mine show that neither sites C or D are very economically valuable, but these do bring in some money, sites C and D have a caf, a farm, houses a nd a sewage works, which all pay taxes to the council, so they are not staggeringly lacking in economic value. This was completely the opposite for the environmental evaluations, sites C and D scored the highest both in the class graph and mine, but I scored sites C and D slightly higher than the average. I thought they should both score highly because they had had a high scenic quality, the habitat for birds and animals was very good, and the location is important for the study of geology and ecosystems. In site D there is a lot of salt-loving vegetation that helps stop the cliffs wear so if this was taken away they are effectively pickings away sea defences. The area is also very popular with bird watchers, dog walkers and horse riders. The Save The Naze Protection society despe orderly wants to save the Naze from falling into the sea. On their website they had an article about why the Naze is not being saved.Beaurocracy hinders any real shape up to Save the NazeVia the local MP b oth the Environmental and Heritage departments of the Government has been written to asking for action to save the Naze and the Naze Tower, which is a listed building. The environmental department confirmed its approval for the agreed three with child(p) manoeuver scheme to retard erosion but will not finance it saying action ask to come from Tendring District Council. The Heritage department say it is concerned about losing the Tower but cannot do anything because it is down to the environmental department to do something. They also say Tendring District Council should be the organisation taking the initiative. The Chief Executive of Tendring District Council and others have been written to about the major slippages and asking what they intend to do but they still await the results of research expected in spring 2002. There is a real danger then that they will use results to discredit the currently approved scheme and want to neglect more time and money investigating and getting approved alternative schemes. From past experience this could well take 5 to 10 years in which time the Tower will be lost together with more acres of the Naze. The Tower At WaltonTower at risk in next few yearsThe cliff edge at the Tower groyne is now within 25m from the cafe. The cliff edge at this point is now estimated to be around 100m back from the end of the existing sea defence constructed in 1977. This means that erosion here is 4m a year and the cafe and the tower near to it, a Grade II listed building, are in serious danger of being lost in the next two or three years unless something is done soon. The decision whether the Naze is worth saving is very difficult. Both sides have very good arguments whether or not to save the Naze. I believe that the Naze is defiantly worth saving, just because some sites are not economically valuable, or some are not environmentally valuable, all of the sites are at least one of those. Sites A and B are worth saving for economical reasons and sites C and D are worth saving for environmental reasons.Eventually the whole town will erode away if the sea defences are not put in everywhere. There is still a lot of cliff erosion in the unprotected parts of the Naze, as the articles below on the save the Naze website shows.Cliff foot travel plan goes into the seaAnother huge piece of the Naze cliffs has slipped losing a further half acre of public amenity space and causing Tendring District Council to create a new path along the cliff because of the danger to the public. The slippage was at the spot where the centre hard point of the approved coastal defence scheme was to have been erected for which Tendring District Council would not support a submission for lottery strains. This hard point would have saved this from happening.Heavy Winter rain takes its toll. This winter the substantial rainfall has caused a greater than radiation diagram slippage of sections of cliff, particularly at the Tower groyne and mid-way betwe en there and the northern end. The normal high and vicious winter tides have done their worst and carried away tons of the NazeConclusionI have been trying to explore the hypothesis, the costs of extending sea defences at Walton on the Naze are too high and the benefits to small.I do not agree with the hypothesis, I feel that Walton-on-the-Naze is worth saving. I think that sites A, B and C should definitely be saved, this is because without these sites, Walton would have no source of income, site A has the pier, restaurants, caf, amusements, a leisure centre and a car park. All of these pay a business tax that goes into the towns funds, which in turn, helps fund important services (health, emergency, education and environmental).Site B has the most important source of income of all, the beach, without the beach throng would not have a reason to come to Walton, the beach not being there would a have a knock-on effect for the rest of the town, this is shown in my negative multiplier effect diagram, labelled Fig.10. Site C is quite a big money earner for the town it has a caf, which pays business tax, houses which pay residential tax, a sewage works and a farm. Also it has a Martello tower, which is a grade 2 listed building, there was an article about the tower on the save the Naze website (fig.15-16), it states that if that area is left and the current rate of erosion stays the same the tower will be gone in 3-5 years.I think that site D should be protected, even though it has no real economic value, the environmental value is great, there are some very rare birds which visit, also some very rare plants grow there as well. The area is very popular with dog walkers and horse riders also once people are drawn to Walton because of the wildlife they may well visit the town and the pier and spend some money, so even though the Naze itself does not earn any money it is a way to attract people to the town. There was a lot of evidence that helped me come to this concl usion, the evaluation sheets we filled in at Walton (Fig 8 & 9) and the graphs I then made of these results (figs 11-14) were especially helpful to me. They helped me understand what other people felt about saving/not saving the Naze. The Save the Naze website was also very important, it showed some of major slippages that have happened recently, and also that Tendring District Council really dont care about Walton. In one of the articles (fig 17) the website tells of how another huge piece of cliff, along with a footpath fell into the sea, and all the council did was erect another footpath alongside the old one, someplace along the line someone will be walking on a footpath when it collapses and get killed, then everyone will be saying to the council, why wasnt anything done before? They will have no answer.Part of the Cliff That Has Fallen DownThe most important evidence that helped me to make my decision was the things I saw when we went to Walton, I saw a building that had fall en onto the beach below, where there were no defences, and then to see the site where the defences have been put and have been working. When we went to Walton it was not a particularly nice day but there were many, many people on the beach and again many people in the town itself.EvaluationI used many methods to test the hypothesis these were notes, photographs, field sketches, bi wintry graphs and evaluation sheets of each site. The notes and photographs I took were very useful, the photographs really showed the extent of the damage that has been done by erosion and slumping, the sea defences that have been put in place and what is divergence to be destroyed if more sea defences are not put in. The bi-polar graphs and evaluation sheets were also very successful, the class graphs allowed me to see what other people thought about the Naze. There are two other methods I would have liked to use, but were not able to. The first of these is a questionnaire these could have been handed o ut to walkers and owners of homes and businesses to see how they felt about their council and the place they live being eroded away, this could of enabled me to see if the people of Walton want their town saved. Another way of doing this would be to interview people connected with Walton, someone from the Save the Naze website, someone from the chamber of commerce, someone from the council and owners of homes and businesses. The only problem with this is that it would not give a fair idea, as it is only 4 peoples opinion and not 10 times that if we sent out questionnaires. In presenting my work, I word-processed my text, added a lot of photographs and used the mesh to find some sources of information from the Save the Naze website. I feel that my work was well presented, as I word-processed everything it looks a lot neater as there are no mistakes and the pages are numbered so to not flick up the pages. One method I would like to have used was Microsoft PowerPoint, so I could show things e.g. How to get to Walton and how slumping happens, in 3.D to help understand what slumping is.One problem we encountered when we visited Walton was the weather, it rained heavily just as we were going to site B, having been to sites C and D already we had done half of the trip but it was cut brief as the rain wouldnt stop. I think I was very organised with the way I did my work, but one thing I would have preferred is that if we would have gone to Walton before we had started the written work, because we had already done the introduction the week before we went, so I feel that if we went before I would have been able to get more information in the introduction.

Adolf Hitler created Nazis and took aways Jews rights, deported them to ghettos and concentration camps, and were killed during World War II. The Nazis and Hitler tried to abolish altogether Jews and go against them because they thought the Jews were the reason for Germanys crisis. Together the Nazis killed the largest remaining Jewish population In Europe- the Jews of Hungary. In this documentary, it tells the accounting of the five Hungarian survivors. Many stories atomic number 18 similar to for each one other. Some of these urvivors has stories similar, with some differences to Elie Wiesels book, Night. The story that was very oft corresponding Elies was Irene Zisblatts. Irene grew up in Polena, Hungary, a small town with two maln streets. and a church where evenryone knew each other, like Elie Wiesel. Like Elle, she was an inmate in the Auschwits concentration camp and the Birkenau concentration camp. Irene was liberated on the eve of VE Day by soldiers of the U. S. Third Army. She attended prepare at the ime when they said Jews couldnt go to public school anymore, so her mom had to teach her at home. In 1944, they were to get deported to the ghetto. Her family had to give up valuables and wear the yellow star. While in the camps, she witnessed people getting their gold teeth pulled out. Another story was the story of Renee Firestone, from Ungvar, Hungary, lived in a small town but was like a big town. During the time that Jews were getting their rights interpreted away, her fathers business had been taken away from him.Like Elle, she had to go In cattle cars that were very uncomfortable and were crammed with people in It. She also went to Auschwits, where many others were dehumanized sand murdered in crematories. My reaction to all theses stores, including Elles, is that many of the survivors stories are a lot alike because most of them didnt even know or expect to see something like this happen. It came out of no where and they couldnt really sto p It. Its a shame they had to go through this because many of them were bare people. ton

In genuineity, the Philippines has been plagued by malicious controversies, threatening disasters, and respective(a) crises. found on the evaluation of the PSA, the administration was non able to handle the tell adversities proficiently. Based on this, the researchers believe that it is righteous for the PSA to dub the Philippines as the hap Capital of Asia. At the rise of a new administration low death chair Aquino, innumerable disasters and calamities confine occurred. The Pacific Strategies and Assessments, with miscellaneous bases, has concluded that the Philippines is one of Asias intimately unsafe desti rural areas.Due to this assessment, concerned Philippines desire to be move on informed by the realms set backbones and incorporate their depends and opinions regarding these. In addition to the objectives seted, by extensive research and the critical analysis of the information ga on that spotlightd, the researchers wanted to provide their detailed criticism of the assessment of PSA on the Aquino administration. The group then aims to shed light on the chase questions 1) What is the Pacific Strategies and Assessments? What is its function? As a socio-economic organization, what are its objectives? 2) What are its bases in dubbing the verdant as the incident Capital of Asia? 3) According to PSA, has the Aquino administration performed proficiently during its first few months? 4) With these bases, is it right for PSA to label the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia? 5) Do the researchers agree with the assessment fork uped by PSA?This study will focus on four of import parts the Pacific Strategies and Assessments, five of the beat out disasters and abominationsthe Maguindanao mow down, the Quirino Grand accept hostage-taking crisis, Typhoon Juan, the terrorist attack threats and the various snatchping crisesthat expect plagued the province, the travel the Aquino administration has taken to solve these issues, and the researchers reaction on the PSAs assessment that the Philippines is the Disaster Capital of Asia. On the different hand, this study does not discuss early(a) catastrophes that drop troubled the country during the Aquino administration.Although there are other disasters that have occurred during the governance of Pres. Noynoy Aquino, the researchers deem that this paper should altogether focus on the lather disasters that have troubled the country since these are the bases of PSA in its assessment. to a greater extentover, from the title itself, this paper is limited to the researchers point of view alone because there were no interviews nor surveys conducted to determine the various reactions of the other Filipinos affected by the crises that have occurred in the country. The significance of this study is to inform the Filipino raft and the wad from on the whole(prenominal) over the mankind as well, of how the other nations view the Philippines because of the disasters in the country. This study in any case exposes how the present administration handles the different disasters that have plagued the country. With these, this research paper will benefit the Filipino masses, for they will be informed of the adversities that are ruin their nation, and they will be educated on handling catastrophes to avoid having their country criticized as the Disaster Capital of Asia. This paper is also timely because it tackles the worst disasters that have devastated, and ni gh that slake wreak havoc in the Philippines up to present. With the completion of this paper, the researchers have been able to provide the Filipinos a justification of the righteousness of the assessment of the PSA to their home country. Findings This part of the paper includes the related readings that have aided the group in their research. It is comprised of the circumstance of the PSA, its functions and objectives, and its assessment of the Aquino Administration based on five of the worst disasters that have occurred in the Philippines. These serve as consultation materials, from which various information were lifted to support the analysis and interpretation of the data. Pacific Strategies and Assessments (PSA), is a socio-economic organization based in Asia and the United States of America it has say-sos in manila paper, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok and Milwaukee. Its manilla office is the oldest and largest branch and is currently below the management of the E xecutive Director Graeme Campbell (Pacific Strategies and Assessments, n. d. ).PSA specializes in Asian risks. At the same time, it provides circumspect and confidential shelter and crisis management services which jockstrap different associations foster their assets, pr as yett security violations, resolve to emergencies and facilitate condescension flow in clock of crisis. It also assists its clients in fashioning reliable decisions in the field of quite a littleiness in Asia. PSA helps reduce risks associated with various crimes through its probe services and provides background screening of its clients.Furthermore, it prepares intelligence briefs regarding semipolitical and economic situations to its clients, in this case, the Philippines. PSA aims to maximize the advantages and minimize the risks of facilitating jitneyiness in places often jeopardized by political and economic instabilities, security threats, terrorism and lax rule of rightfulness (What PSA does, 20 10). With these readings, the researchers were informed of the functions and objectives of PSA as a socio-economic organization. This knowledge has aided the group in deciphering the right of the said organization to dub the country as the Disaster Capital of Asia. Moreover, these have helped the researchers know whether the PSA has efficiently performed its functions to its member countries, particularly, the Philippines. In PSAs (2010) assessment on the Aquino administration, it criticized the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia because of the multiple risks homogeneous coups, rebel extortions, and terrorist threats that regularly occur in the country, and the particular crimes that have haunted the Filipinos and the rest of the world during the Aquino administration. It has indicated that hese fiascos could own some daunting challenges at the different businesses in the country, hence, affecting the Philippine economy and the performance of the present establishment h eaded by chairwoman Benigno Simeon Aquino III, or more comm yet known as PNoy to the Filipino people. The following are the disasters and crimes that have influenced PSA to assess the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia. The Ampatuans have been in complaint of Maguindanao since 2001. Their reign started aft(prenominal) former Pres. Corazon Aquino replaced every locally-elected official because she came into power by means of a revolution.Andal Ampatuan sr. was appointed by former chairwoman Aquino as the officer-in-charge in Shariff Aguak in 1986 after the successful mountain Power Revolution. Andal Ampatuan Sr. won the 1988 local elections and served for ten years he was then elected as governor in 1998. He has been elected as provincial governor collar times, unopposed, only if with his softness to run for a third term, he prepares his son Andal Jr. to govern in his place (Cory gave Ampatuan his countermine, 2009). Authorities claimed that there were at least 161 s uspects involved in the execution of the Maguindanao massacre.Director General deliveryman Verzosa stated that the majority of the suspects were guardmen, soldiers, and brass officials under the control of the Ampatuan clan. Verzosa said that the mayor of Datu Unsay town, Andal Ampatuan Jr. , was label as the mastermind of these killings (Police chief names suspects, 2009). The Maguindanao massacre is one of the deadliest razets that has extended in the Philippine autobiography which led to the death of 58 people including journalists, lawyers, government officials, tourists, some relatives of Esmael Mangundadatu, and his wife Genalyn Tiamson-Mangudadatu (David, 2009).Alcuin Papa (2009) noted that in the morning of November 23, 2009 in the Maguindanao province, the victims were kidnapped and killed while they were on their way to show the certificate of candidacy of Esmael Mangudadatu. The victims were gibe in their heads and chests at close range, and those who were still alive were finished off by Andal Ampatuan Jr. himself. The victims were buried under the mass grave which was prepared two days in front the said slaying. Before the mass finish march oned, Mangudadatu received a threat from the opposing clan saying that they would kill him if he rents the filing of his COC.Mangudadatu pertinacious to let the media cover his filing of COC to stop or hinder the said assault, exactly was still unable(p) to pr correctt the hideous incident. These readings have helped the researchers by supporting the idea that the Ampatuans committed the horrendous crime as a means of instituting and preserving their power over Maguindanao. These readings have proven that the extensions of Ampatuans have held offices in the area for a relatively long period, yet they refuse to let go of their vast influence in the region.Furthermore, these readings have also proven that the said massacre is one of the most devastating crimes that have occurred in the countrys h istory, and has become an essential part of PSAs assessment, which, in turn, has undischargedly contributed to the groups evaluation. On the other hand, on the 23rd of imperious 2010, a hostage taking took place at the Quirino Grand wheel which resulted in nine deaths including Hong Kong nationals and the perpetrator Rolando Mendoza himself, a disgruntled former senior inspector. At the h eight of his motorcareer, Mendoza was ranked one of the Ten Outstanding Policemen of the Philippines and was famously known for leading a group of policemen tracking plenty a van filled with c range of capital believed to be smuggled by former President Ferdinand Marcos out of the country. In 2008, he was dismissed from his position after misconduct and drug abuse charges. At around 7 in the level offing of August 23, the SWAT team began to enclose on the bus and tried to enter it by breaking its windows using sledgehammers. However, they were forced back by gunfire orgasm from the bus. The polices endeavor to break into the bus lasted for an hour. Tear gas canisters were catapulted into the bus as the police tried to prise open the door by tying a rope attached to a police car, which unfortunately ended with the rope snapping. Later, police marksmen in positions gunned Mendoza in the head (Manila Hostage Taking Crisis, 2010). pia Lee-Brago (2010) wrote that the August 23 crisis which resulted in 8 Hong Kong tourist deaths negatively affected the Philippines relations with China.Hong Kong calls on Filipino witnesses to help determine the real cause of death of the eight tourists and proclaimed that its government is disappointed in Malacanan legal teams order to reduce investigations and reviews against those involved in the rescue. 19 injured Hong Kong nationals including children and elderly were among those injured in the hostage taking. In addition, the 8 deceased victims bodies have already been sent back to their families in Hong Kong. President Aquino has ord ered a rigorous investigation headed by writing table of Justice Leila de Lima (Avendano, 2010).On August 31, preliminary results of the official investigation were released and showed that a high calibre weapon fired within the bus caused the hostages wounds. 58 of the 65 M16 rifle cartridges recovered from the coach were from Mendozas gun. The investigation team spokesperson stated that it was certain that Mendoza killed the eight hostages who died in the incident (Wong, 2010). On folk 3, however, De Lima admitted that some of the hostages may have been shot by the police (Philippines admits police, 2010).These served as evidences that the Filipino policemen lack the know-how of handling crimes want the hostage taking, vagabondt the lives of not only Filipinos but also other nationalities who are residing or visiting the country, in great danger. Moreover, these readings have further proven that the Aquino administration has not efficiently done its part on the investigation o f the incident causing a large gap between the China-Hong Kong-Philippine relations. With the evidences presented, the group has remained firm on their stand that the government has not yet done any significant action to solve these problems.Typhoon Juan, with Megi as its global name, is the strongest typhoon to hit the country last 2010. It had a wind speed of 250 kph set 20 provinces on storm alert. Residents of 35 towns in Cagayan were forced to evacuate due to the danger brought about by the typhoon, consort to Flores (2010). Cagayan and Isabela were placed on the highest storm signal and experienced strong winds. Some residents living in low-lying areas of Cagayan valley voluntarily evacuated while equipment in preparation for the typhoon were positioned in Northern Luzon (De Leon, Reyes, Hachero, Bengco Naval, 2010).Juan dumped heavy rains over Manila after leaving at least 11 people dead and 32 million pesos cost of damage to road network and other infrastructures. Data from National Disaster Risk Reduction perplexity Council (NDRRMC) (as cited in Super Juan leaves 11 dead, 2010) showed 10, 434 people from 57 barangays in 27 municipalities and one city in Northern and Central Luzon were drastically affected by the typhoon. afterwards this unpleasant incident, assuagement trading operations were provided to residents of the affected regions.Vice President Binay endureed the typhoon victims PAG-IBIG financial attention. The PAG-IBIG fund was directed to allot 200 million pesos under its calamity loan program for the victims of typhoon Juan (Barcelo, 2010). Cauayan, Isabela, one of the worst-hit areas of the typhoon, (as cited in DSWD secretary flies to Isabela, 2010) was personally visited by the DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman and DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo to assess the damage caused by typhoon Juan and to provide the victims of 11. 96 million pesos worth of relief goods. These relief goods consist of 5,000 food packs, tents, noodles , and 1,000 boxes of high-energy protein biscuits. In Cagayan Region alone, 3. 2 million pesos worth of relief assistance was provided by the DSWD. These information from readings have greatly helped the group be informed of the devastating effects that Typhoon Juan has inflicted on the different areas of Luzon, the innumerable injuries and deaths the typhoon has caused, and the programs and operations that the government has implemented in order to aid the victims of the said typhoon. Moreover, these readings have proven that the Philippines lack preparedness with regards to handling the wrath of natural calamities. At the height of the terrorist attacks threatening the Philippines, the Filipinos themselves rancid out to be ignorant of the terrifying assaults intended for the country. Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta even said that there is no imminent threat, there is no information which says that there is an impending attack (as cited in Terror concealed, 2010, p. A12).The nation also appeared to have no access to the information disseminated by the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, new(a) Zealand and eventually France, when these countries advised their respective citizens to stop travelling to the Philippines because of a possible terrorist strike (Terror concealed, 2010 Yap, Zamora, Papa, Bordadora Fernandez, 2010). The Australian Embassy even noted that reliable reports indicate that the terrorist attacks might be imminent in tube-shaped structure Manila, including places frequented by foreigners (as cited by Brago, 2010, para 3).British and US authorities worrywise declared that these menacing terrorist threats could happen anytime in Manila. Speaker Sonny Belmonte then explained via phone interview, We are calling to our consort, curiously their intelligence agencies, to dowry with us what they know, what this is all about (as cited in Ubac, 2010, p. A8). Even though six countries have already warned their residents of the outgoing attacks, Pazzibugan, Papa and Esplanada (2010) stated that Filipino security officials downplayed the alerts. These related materials have proven that the Philippine government, along with the Filipino citizens, were ignorant of the threatening terrorist attacks, when other nations deem that the Philippines itself is the cause of chaos. Upon discovery of the root of this problem, the Philippine police and the other security groups in the country have not exercised their duties to protect and serve the Filipinos. With these, the groups stand concerning the performance of the Aquino administration, particularly the police and military, has been further substantiateed.Aside from these, due to the numerous incidents of kidnapping in the Philippines, the country has earned the title Kidnap Capital of Asia. The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism describes kidnapping in the country as a virtual cottage industry in which little capital and evidently equally little risk can mean millions of pesos in profits (as cited by Clayton, n. d. ). For years, this problem has been a major hindrance to the growth and development of the country. With this, many Filipino citizens requested that Republic Act 9372 or Human Security Act of 2007 should be fully supported and implemented because this is one way of preventing the haste of kidnaps in the country (Samonte, 2010). In strange places in the Philippines, there are rampant kidnapping incidents involving pixilated and powerful political families. In Cotabato, two people were killed when gunmen abducted the wife of the prominent local trader, Lucio Tan. At the age of 50, Conchita Tan was riding their car, and was about 30 meters away from their home when she was seized by about six car-riding suspects. It was said that Conchitas bodyguard tried to prevent the kidnapping and even traded fire with the suspects, but Conchita ended up dead together with her driver (Fernandez, Senase Alipala, 2010). In Valenzuela City, on October 17, 2010, a criminal gang released eight kidnap victims of which seven are schoolchildren. At around 630 in the morning of October 14, the father of the three children and their four cousins were snatched in the said city. The victims were said to be Chinese-Filipinos or Tsinoys. According to Felipe (2010), it was the fifth kidnap-for-ransom case since President Aquino has assumed office last June 30.Meanwhile, the charred body of Venson Evangelista was discovered by a farmer in the remote barangay of Buliran, Cabanatuan City on January 14, 2010. The body has been burned with the use of kerosene and rubber tire. It was found out that a 9 mm pistol was used to kill Evangelista. The same situation also happened to another car dealer, Emerson Lozano and his driver, Ernane Sensil, whose bodies were found in Porac, Pampanga and La Paz, Tarlac, respectively. Central Luzon police director, Chief Supt. Alan Purisima said, Probably, only one group did it.Its positive that the body found in Cabanatuan was Venson Evangelistas (as cited by Galang Pazzibugan, 2011, p. A18). Using these information, the researchers have found out that the crime of kidnapping is one of the most devastating setbacks of the countrys security concerns. Through the years, it has remained as one of the most frequently committed crimes in the Philippines. Even though the government has plans to alleviate the various crimes in the country, it is evident that their efforts to stop kidnapping incidents in the country are futile. This part of the paper, in summary, tackles the various topics concerning the specific subjects of the study. It includes the presentation of the Pacific Strategies and Assessments (PSA) as a socio-economic organization, and the enumeration and investigation of some of the worst man-made and natural disasters that plagued the Philippines under the Aquino administration. In addition, it also discusses PSAs appraisal that t he Philippines is the Disaster Capital of Asia.Based on the timely data and information gathered through broad research, the group has formulated their analysis and interpretation of the most dangerous disasters that have occurred in the Philippines. In addition, the groups views regarding the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia are discussed in this part of the paper. Authors Stand on the Assessment Presented The following are the worst disasters that have occurred in the Philippines that served as the bases of PSA in its assessment of the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia.On November 23, 2009, an estimate of 100 gunmen associated to Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. allegedly abducted in broad daylight a convoy of aides and relatives of a rival politician, Esmael Mangudadatu, and a group of journalists, as they headed for the local Commission on Elections office to formally file Mangudadatus certificate of candidacy (COC) for the position occupied by Ampatu an Sr. then. Hours later, news bust out that the convoy had been massacred, with 58 people dead because of senseless slaughter and mutilation. This incident has left many people speechless as words failed to convey the outrage felt by those who were horrified by the said tragedy. Families who lost their loved ones on the said mishap continuously deplore and fervently beg that justice be served to them accordingly. What happened to their kin, especially to the female victims, who were said to be sexually-abused before getting killed, was so fell that the group, as well as the Filipinos all over the country, could almost feel their pain and anguish. The Ampatuans, long before the incident, were already suspected of world involved in unsolved killings in particular areas and regions in Maguindanao. many were also affected by their acquisitiveness and their desire for power. Unfortunately, the people in Maguindanao were afraid to testify or file cases to the Ampatuans as they believe that the Philippine government will not be able to protect them from reprisal. The government takes a part of the blame for the brutal killing of several people, all of which were innocent. The past administration headed by former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, was still not able to dismantle the ruthlessness in Mindanao. The government has failed to solve the barbaric cases that take place in Mindanao almost everyday. Their handling of the situation weakened the peoples already fragile trust in supposedly democratic institutions as the government gave a disorganized solution to the circumstances. However, as Pres.Noynoy Aquino took oath as the President of the Philippines, the Philippine government was still not able to prosecute more critical investigations of the said massacre. As a result, the families of those who were killed last November 23, 2009 still continue to grieve as no justice is given to them. Although Ampatuan Jr. , with the other people involved in the crime, re mains in jail because of his inhumane act, the victims mourning families still firmly desire to punish him more severely for putting an end to 58 innocent lives. The group believes that the frightening incident should spark meticulous going reforms not only in the region, but in the solid Philippines as well, more than merely disarming the closed-door armies the national government truly require to foster authentic participation by the marginalized sectors in governance. Additionally, the government needs to initiate programs and policies to give power to the poor by establishing anti-poverty measures such as asset reforms so that the poor would no longer be dependent on politicians, local warlords or traditional political families or more commonly known as trapos.More importantly, the Aquino government needs to restore and strengthen rural democratic institutions because these are considered to be the weakest links of governance in the rural areas. These institutions include the peoples organizations which remain unprotected by the government. Also, the private sector and civil society also have roles to take part in the development of these regions especially because multi-sectoral development initiatives that involve the beneficiaries have proven to be successful. If the government pursues genuine development and peace initiatives in these regions, the indigenous peoples would finally be able to pursue economic and governance activities without fearing for their lives. These are among the steps that the group suggests the present administration is evaluate to carry out to develop the current investigations of this atrocious massacre. Aside from the massacre, the hostage-taking incident that has taken place at the Quirino Grandstand has greatly influenced PSAs assessment.Twenty-seven Hong Kong nationals who were on their last day of vacation in the Philippines were taken as hostages by ex-SPO2 Rolando Mendoza last August 23, 2010. The police, soldiers, bys tanders, and the Filipino people, through the live coverage of the media, altogether witnessed one of the most heinous crimes to be ever committed in the country last 2010. With this incident, nine people died eight out of the 27 tourists were killed, and the hostage-taker himself was shot, and was later declared dead by the police. Who is to be blamed for this tragedy?Whose severance was it that what should have been a joyful trip for these foreigners resulted to the loss of some of their lives? Were sound judgment and careful think exercised by the security groups of our country in dealing with the situation then? Certainly, the service provided by the Filipino policemen and soldiers that tragic night was not to the full extent by which they could have prevented the crime or even just lessened the tension brought about by the situation. It is not that they have not done their jobs of defend the people, but their efforts were clearly not enough to impede the crisis. The media als o had the responsibility to be sensible to the people involved in the tragedy, but with what had happened, they appeared to be on the wrong trackthey even covered the whole event even the most sensitive parts of the incident were shown to the public through various media like the internet, radio and television. This crime has created a wide gap between Hong Kong-China and the Philippines as the former believes that the latter does not deserve its trust again because of what has happened. Not only that, but news about the hostage-taking did not only distress the Filipinos it was even aired in international news channels like the CNN and BBC. This alarmed even the other nations, and with this, they were disturbed and were eventually convinced that the Philippines is an ill-fated nation, that the country is not a good place to visit at all. Worse, various photos and videos of meddlers in the crime scene, some college students and police officers themselves, were posted online for the wo rld to see. This even triggered an angrier crowd from all over the world.Due to this, other people from the different races deemed that all Filipinos are not hospitable nor peace-loving nevertheless, they do not pay respect to the victims of the tragedy. The current investigations of the Philippines regarding the hostage-incident are slow-paced as the country is negotiating with the Hong Kong government. Both parties could still not agree with how they will investigate and with how they will push through with the operations regarding this crime. The group sees that the cause of this delay is the ruined relationships of the two parties involved. The Philippines, under the present administration of PNoy, has been trying to offer many benefits for the families of the eight Hong Kong nationals who were killed. However, the Hong Kong government demands more than what the Philippine administration could offer. Because of this, both the Philippines and Hong Kong conduct their own investigat ions without the help of each other, making the examination of the Quirino Grandstand hostage incident stagnant. As of now, the Philippines is facing the challenge of construct its reputation which was destroyed in just a snap of a finger. It is truly difficult to witness the trust of other nations, especially Hong Kong and China, after what has occurred. Moreover, it is hard to revive the glorious days of the nation after this disgrace. Although the Filipino citizens are in the verge of being torn apart by malice and controversy, all of them can still contribute to uplift the Philippines image. Each Filipino, regardless of age, gender and social status can take part in the mission of changing the way the rest of the world sees the country.Even in the simplest ways, the researchers can help their motherland recover from this misery they can make others realize that what one man did doesnt necessarily reflect what a whole nation of Filipinos is. On the other hand, Typhoon Juan (inte rnational name Megi), being the strongest and most destructive typhoon to ever hit the Philippines in 2010, has caused devastating damages to several provinces in Luzon, especially to Cagayan and Isabela where the typhoons wrath was felt the strongest. The typhoon caused 11 deaths, millions of pesos worth of damages, and many people homeless just a few months before the Christmas season.Could these damages have been prevented or just even lessened? What would then happen to those people who lost their loved ones and their homes? What more could the government do to help these people get back on their feet? Indeed, the government has been there to offer donations to those victims of the natural disaster as it has always been the first one being seen or heard in news, yet does their work stop there? Quite queer as it is, their jobs do not stop there, unlike what they believe so.The government is divided into many departments and branches that are interrelated well enough, so devastat ion this massive is not expected. In the Philippines, it is widely known that the months of September to early November fall under the rainy season, so the government could have been more prepared for the expected typhoon that would hit the country. The government could have started programs that would educate and prepare people on what to do in situations like this because prevention of these catastrophes is always better than alleviating the problems it causes and entails. The government could also have built concrete roads and steadfast infrastructures in the calamity-prone areas of the country so that rescue and relief operations could reach disaster-struck areas quicker and these services could be provided more efficiently. later on the massive destruction of the typhoon, the government could help the people live normally again by providing them livelihood projects and payment for the damages so that people can get by and hand scholarship and health benefits as well.Instead, what the government does is give short-term relief to the people greatly devastated. After a week, when the relief goods have been consumed, what will the people do? In the end, what they need more is a great pusha push that combined with their own efforts, will result in greater and long-term benefits that will get them their lives back on track. In contrast to this natural calamity, the Philippines has also been menace by terrorist attacks which caused chaos not only among the citizens of the country but among the people of the world as well. condescension all the actions taken by six countriesGreat Britain, United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Francethe Philippine government keep to ignore the imminent terror attack on the Philippine territory. With this, how can the Philippine government protect its citizens from danger if they, themselves take no notice of the threat? In an interview, President Benigno Simeon Aquino III unfortunately verbalized out loud two dis tinct possibilities behind the Philippine governments unclenched reaction. The first luck is that, maybe, the information is unreliable and is therefore wrong. The Aquino administration is conveying an almost cavalier attitude toward it. It isnt adjustthat is the governments story, and theyre sticking to it despite the urgency with which the six countries are dealing with the information. The other was that those alarmed countries had the information, and did not share it with the Philippines. There were several countries that discussed this among themselves, and we are the targets and lots of these people are our allies. I think we should have been informed the President said (as cited in Terror Incognito, 2010, p. A12).It transpires that the Philippine allies failed to let the Philippines know about the danger, and the government took it personally. With the said possibilities, the nation cannot afford to let down its guard, but what did the Aquino administration do? Instead of pr oviding security to the country, they chose to turn their back on the issue. For the Philippine government to put pride before the safety of its people, that scenario would be the most threatening of all. Whether this rumor turns out to be real or not, it is still essential to deal with this threat as the real thing. In a generation where small pieces of information can be as potent a destroyer as the explosives themselves, it is the governments first duty to ensure that its citizens are safe, even if it looks like jumping the gun, even if it looks like they are erring on the side of caution. It is the correct response, no matter what. It is the welfare of the citizens that should be first taken care of by the government, and not the interest of the economy. Besides, the Philippines is not in such a mentally ill situation, that it cannot afford to protect the people before the businesses at stake. These terror threats may be real or ot, but it only in knowing the truth about this cru cial issue can the security of the country and its people be truly served. Another basis of PSA in labeling the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia is the high rates of kidnappings in the country. The Philippines, being plagued by frequent kidnapping incidents, does not only mark a scar on the countrys face to the whole world. This even creates a barrier that prevents foreign trade, foreign investments, and tourism of the country with the rest of the world. Because of this, the growth and development of the country slows down and is feared to come to a complete halt someday.Any person, regardless of age or gender, may be a victim of this crime. Based on the data gathered, the kidnapping of various people including politicians, local traders, schoolchildren, Filipino-Chinese people, and car dealers defines that no one is exempted from being kidnapped. Kidnapping for ransom forces one to choose between his/her life and his/her money or properties, but in some unfortunate cases , both his/her life and his/her possessions were lost. A concrete standard was Venson Evangelista and Emerson Lozanos case they were shot dead and burned, giving up not only their cars but also their precious lives. The government should strictly implement more laws regarding the crime of kidnapping so that it could be prevented. Also, intensive investigations should be prioritized to solve the alarming rates of kidnapping cases not only in the densely-populated areas of the country, but even in the rural places in the Philippines. The increasing number of kidnappings defines that the police are not executing their duties proficiently. The police evidently outnumber the kidnappers, but if they dont act immediately, the situation will be dark and there would be more kidnappers than policemen.Scars cannot be healed hastily they need time to be restored. Likewise, the Philippines needs a strong medication to repair all the scars gashed by the blades of kidnapping. With these catastrop hes, issues and controversies, the PSA has dubbed the country as the Disaster Capital of Asia since the country has evidently remained incapable of handling the wrath both natural and man-made disasters bring. The Philippine government and the Filipinos themselves have been struggling to face the aftermath of the misfortunes faced by the country at present. With the various proofs that emerged from this research, the group has agreed with the Pacific Strategies and Assessments assertion of the Philippines as the most disaster-prone area in Asia, therefore labeling the country as the Disaster Capital of Asia. Furthermore, the group deemed that the Aquino administration was not able to handle all the said adversities effectively since the effects brought about by most of the disasters are still not resolved even after months, and even after many years. The slow progress of trials and cases that are still not brought up to court and the temporary and insufficient relief that is offered t o the victims of natural calamities have proven that the administration has failed to meet the expected standard of the performance of their duties and responsibilities to the people. The administration may have helped several victims who suffered the complications brought about by the natural calamities in some short-term ways, but it was clearly not enough to sustain the lives of the many people who mainly rely on the aid the government provides. Moreover, it has not been able to help the victims of the crimes and their families take chances justice for the prejudice they suffered. Aside from these, the Philippines continues to be a country unaware of the impending danger in their environment causing the Filipinos to risk their lives every single second they spend in the unsecured country. More importantly, the Philippine government has the obligation to serve the Filipino masses by protecting them by all means. Simply, the government should be prepared of every forthcoming disast er since the lives of many of the citizens are on their hands. baffle as it is, the government has their own strategies they wait for the disaster, and after it has already destroyed properties and has claimed lives, they plan what to do. It seems like the Philippine government has never learned from the past administrations the officials of the country continue to ignore the consequences of their obliviousness. The Philippines has actually gone through many ills from the typhoons that struck and flooded the country to terrorist threats that alarmed other nations not to visit the Philippines. This leaves no lighten for the Philippine government to be unprepared for these disasters. The government should have at least prepared a certain plan of action in case more disasters loom in the Philippines. Based on these findings, the researchers came up with the following important points 1. After more than a year since the Maguindanao massacre, the families of the victims still continue to grieve as no recent investigation has been pursued to solve the said case. 2.The Quirino-Grandstand hostage-taking incident clearly did not only ruin the relations between the Philippines and Hong Kong it also embarrassed the Philippines all over the world. Because of this, investigations of the said crime have been interrupted and delayed. 3. Typhoon Juan has greatly devastated the country, and even after months since it pummelled the Philippines, the Filipinos greatly affected still cannot cope and recover. 4. The terrorist threats in the country were not handled accordingly since the Filipinos, particularly the government itself, were not aware of the situation. . Kidnapping in the Philippines has been rampant for the past few years, and still, the government has not given any concrete explanation with regards to this. 6. The Aquino administration has not been able to present any significant development in the investigations of the said crimes and in its operations during calami ties. Conclusions After the thorough analysis and interpretation of the subjects of the research and supporting them with the various facts and data gathered, the group has arrived at the following conclusions 1.The Pacific Strategies and Assessments is a socio-economic organization that specializes in Asian risks. At the same time, it also assists its clients in making reliable business decisions in Asia. Most importantly, it prepares intelligence briefs regarding political and economic situations to its clients like the Philippines. The PSA aims to maximize the advantages and minimize the risks of doing business in places that are often plagued by political, economic and socio-cultural ills. 2. Numerous disasters and catastrophes have indeed wreaked havoc in the Philippines. These include man-made disasters such as the Maguindanao massacre, the Quirino Grandstand hostage-taking incident, the terrorist threats that made some countries exercise a high degree of caution in travelling to the Philippines, and the high and alarming rates of kidnapping cases in the different areas in the country. Natural disasters like the Typhoon Juan also inflicted vast damage in the country. These five disasters have been the bases of PSA in dubbing the Philippines as the Disaster Capital of Asia. 3. At its rise, the present administration has not performed proficiently. The Aquino administration, in its first few months, has not presented any significant development on the current investigations of the Philippines most abhorrent crimes and improvement on its operations in times of disasters like natural catastrophes. Investigations of the Maguindanao massacre, the Quirino Grandstand hostage-taking incident and the different kidnapping occurrences have remained stagnant, while the governments plan of action regarding the terrorist threats in the country and Typhoon Juan has not been sustained at all. 4.Because the Aquino administration has failed to fulfill its duties and respons ibilities to the Filipino citizens in times of disasters and other catastrophes, and the effects of the lack of political will in the Philippines were experienced by many Filipinos, it is therefore righteous for PSA to label the country as the Disaster Capital of Asia. 5. The group has agreed with PSAs assessment on the Philippines under the Aquino government as the Disaster Capital of Asia since the country has been troubled by spiteful disasters and the administration has not been capable of alleviating the subsequent situations of these problems.Recommendations After an in-depth analysis of the data gathered, the following recommendations are hereby made 1. Provide a more compelling argument of the reasons behind the PSAs evaluation of the Philippines. In line with this, the group also recommends further research on the different disasters that have created a devastating mess in the country. 2. Look beyond the Aquino administrations shortcomings, but also point out the weaknesse s of the other people and other organizations involved in the different catastrophes that wrecked the Philippines. Analyse the concepts of 'culture shock' and 'cultural adjustment' and Essay - 1
canvass the concepts of culture shock and cultural adjustment and critically assess some possible consequences of th - Essay ExampleA culture may be thought of a network of shared meanings, which are easily taken as truthfulness by those interacting within network. This view of culture upholds that a community of pot is likely to create a general representation obtained from their shared experiences and then embrace these pre-set classes as background or setting against which elect(postnominal) experiences are translated. People endeavor to structure the external world by corresponding external stimuli against cozy theoretical patterns. After such a match is made, an individual is in a position to allot meaning to an outside event. If a match cannot be made, an individual may feel disoriented, frustrated or afraid. People with diverse cultures will see the world differently since they have been carefully sensitized to original assortments of stimuli. An individual may not kno wingly be conscious to the specific patterns of meanings assumed if he/she is interacting with people sharing the same view, because reality is taken for granted. It is through contact with people who view the world in a different perspective that one becomes aware of the cultural patterns he/she is embracing. It is from the movement and the interaction across cultures that the aspect of cultural shock comes about (Nelson et al, 2011, p 164). Culture shock is the distress experienced by a sojourner as an upshot of losing all the recognizable signs and symbol of social interaction, as well as their substitution with by other cues that are strange. The move to a new environment is a traumatic life event when sojourners have to cope with substantial culture change. The reason is that conflicts associated to the divergences in rules, values and meanings surrounded by the two cultures will be unavoidable. In other words, an individual may be so unacquainted(predicate) with the host su rroundings that he/she has no guidance as to what, when and how to do (Cameron, 2010, p 3). People of certain(prenominal) occupations likely to be affected by culture shock are such as irrelevant assimilators and intellectuals, teachers, business executives (expatriates), migrant workers, Peace Corps volunteers and social workers. Oberg highlighted six elements of culture shock. One is strain as a result of the effort needed to make essential psychological adaptations. Second is the sense of passing play and feelings of deficiency with regards to profession, status, friends and possessions. The third element of culture shock entails being rejected and/or rejecting members of new cultures. fourthly is the confusion in terms of role, role expectations, feelings, self identity and values. Fifthly is the anxiety, surprise and even repulse and resentment, after becoming cognizant of cultural differences. The last aspect is the feeling of helplessness as a result of the inability to handle the new environment. When living in a new environment, a student or sojourner goes through the following lay outs of cultural adjustment (Becker & Bhugra, 2005, p 18). Source Becker & Bhugra, 2005, 19 Honeymoon This is the sign stage that a sojourner experiences at the commencement of the contact. The stage is characterized by fascination, euphoria, excitement and enthusiasm. Travelers experience positive strength as similarities are considered as comfort, whilst differences are observed with interest. Crisis/hostility/ irritation This is the culture shock stage that is
